WVIJ was not much more than a neighborhood radio station when it went on the air in July of 1987. In 1995 WVIJ left its embryonic power of 380 watts and began its new life of 2000 watts. Now WVIJ reaches Charlotte, most of Desoto, and parts of Lee, and Sarasota Counties in Southwest Florida in the USA. WVIJ is a Christian station, broadcasting 24 hours per day at 91.7 on the FM dial.

WVIJ is a listener supported station which means that all of its funding comes from listener donations and businesses who donate.

WVIJ is owned and operated by Port Charlotte Educational Broadcasting Foundation, Inc. a nonprofit 501.c3 organization. WVIJ is an Christian Educational radio station. It has a board of directors that live in Port Charlotte and represent a cross section of the business, educational and Christian community. WVIJ is not owned or operated with any church, however it has adopted as its statement of purpose and fundamental beliefs that of the Assemblies of God .

WVIJ enjoys an excellent reputation in Charlotte County since 1987 and is highly visible in the Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Network of Charlotte County.
